lord of the flies book review

Review on lord of the flies

Lord of the flies is a book about a group of young british boys that must survive on a deserted island after crash landing into it during a cold war. William Goldings main characters are Ralph-a average lil boy who is elected to be chief of the group in the beggining Ralph is just a average person. Ralph is in the middle of a tug of war between his instinct or reason. The second character is Piggy- the fat, near-sighted and weak boy is the only voice of reason. Piggy is the butt of everyone's jokes but he always crys and complains just so people could listen to him. Piggy is the most important, since he is the only one with a way to light fires (his glasses). The third main character is Jack- the alpha male, the purely emotional man who lives in the here and now, Jack takes almost the entire group of the boys down to the level of savages. The Other characters are: Simon - an outcast who realizes what his peers really are. Samneric - the twins (Sam and Eric) is like one person, are easy to conform to those with power. Roger - the boy that becomes a fanatic of violence, well beyond the level of anyone else, including Jack.

Those were the characters now this is the plot Set during World War II, the story describes the flight of a group of British schoolboys stranded on a Pacific island after their plane was shot down in route to England. Two of the boys, Ralph and Piggy, discover a conch in the lagoon near the beach and use it to call all the other survivors, setting up a mock democratic government with Ralph as leader. Piggy continues to advise and give logic and reason to Ralph's rule. A signal fire, kindled with the lens of Piggy's glasses, is established on the mountain to call passing ships to their rescue while shelters are constructed.

However, the school's choir leader, Jack, soon becomes obsessed with hunting the pigs of the island and loses sight of Ralph's democratic vision. Further discord results with an increasing fear of a supposed "beast" on the island, stemming particularly from the younger boys dubbed the "littluns." Jack eventually abandons any thought of being rescued, content instead with hunting and killing pigs with his choir boys turned into hunters. Jack later speaks out of turn during their assembly meetings and eventually leaves the group to start a "tribe." Other children gradually defect to his side except for Ralph, Piggy, Simon and the twins Samneric (Sam and Eric). One by one these children are eliminated from the opposition.

Upon discovering the beast the boys had all feared on the mountain is only the rotting corpse of a pilot whose plane had been shot down near the island, Simon runs down from the mountain to share this happy news. However the boys (including Ralph, Piggy, and Samneric) are all, following Jack's example, caught up in a primal ritual celebrating the murder of a pig they have just eaten and Simon runs into the midst of this. Mistaken to be the beast, Simon is killed by the boys' spears.

GOOD PARTS
the good parts in the book are that there is alot of action and lots of violence i like that the most because it keeps the reader wanting to read and i like that alot because most of the books that i read are boring and i usually give up reading it because i have no more interest in reading it but this book is different i keep on reading this book because i always want to find out wat is happening next. I also like this book because it has lots of discription and i could easily have a picture in my head of what is happening in that moment.

BAD PARTS
the bad parts of the book is that many people die in the story for example piggy dies in a rock avalanche and sam also dies so those are some of the bad parts some other bad parts is that wheni was reading this book many times i wanted to punch some of the people in the story but i just cant and i get real aggravated and i stop reading so maybe they should have put like maybe more violence like ralph and jack fighting because all they would do is argue and i think they should have fought so sometimes i would get mad that everyone was scared of jack if i was in that story i would have punched him in the face.

rating
The rating that i give it is a 4 out of 5 because i like this book alot but at sometimes there where some boring parts but overall the book was great and im very glad they made a movie because it has more visual but i like the book more than the movie because in the movie they left out many things and it wasent the same as the book because the book has lots of discription and many things if u just think about it and visualize it, Its like a movie is playing in your head and its just like the movie if u think about it.
